James Clawson (c. 1839) |
According to the United States Census, James was born sometime between 1804 and 1814. My bet is on 1814 (or close to it) because this would allow this portrait in 1839, when James was 24-25 and his wife, Mary, was 20-21. It would also allow the later portrait of Mary and her sons, Daniel and William, to have been created around 1850 so both boys could later serve in the Civil War. The assumption in all this is that the portraits of James and Mary were created at roughly the same time; if the assumption holds, the remainder of the outline seems to be plausible.
